Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my heater blowing cold air?

It could be thermostat settings, airflow problems, ignition issues, a dirty filter or another malfunction. An inspection pinpoints the cause.

When should I replace my furnace instead of repairing it?

Multiply the furnace's age by the repair cost. If the result is over $5,000, replacement usually makes more sense. A 15-year-old furnace with a $400 repair works out to $6,000, so replace it.

When is the best time for a heating tune-up?

Early fall, before you need the heat and before our schedule fills up.

Why does my heater keep turning on and off?

This is called short cycling. It can come from a dirty filter, thermostat problems, restricted airflow, overheating or an improperly sized system.

Should I switch from gas to a heat pump?

For many North County homes, yes. Heat pumps work well in our mild climate. But if your gas furnace is healthy, there's no need to replace it early. Switch when it's due.
